Does anyone know the status of Ralph Vernon who served on Torsk in 1962?
My wife and I visited the Torsk on Sat, 8 April 2006 for the first time. We had never before had the opportunity to tour a submarine. It was an educational experience that I hope to repeat in the near future.
Well done on your web site. And a wonderful way to keep alive the boat and her history and stories. I look forward to making the trip to see her.

I'm very proud to be one of your radio contacts from the restored Radio Room on board the USS Torsk. I really enjoyed the CW contact on 3/5/2005 from NK3ST. Thanks Nick. Superb Website. Congratulations!
I was told about the Torsk by an old shipmate of mine. We served on the USS Spadefish SSN668 together, back in 1979-81 era. Bill McGlinn is his name, he is part of a volunteer group that takes care of the Torsk. It is good to hear that there are groups out there that preserve our "bubblehead" history.
This sub was a great inspiration to me when i found out my grandfather George Curry served on it. Hearing his stories has made me want to join the navy when i get older
Great site, I didn't know the Torsk was so old!
Great Job on the repairs and paint job really looks good I was on the USS Halfbeak SS352
Hi! Nice to see the comments from Mike Pindell about Maryland Naval Militia. I was a Fireman 1st Class and saw the Torsk come in, but never got on board. Every time I see her brings back fond memories of the engine room on MNMS Defiant, we called her the Decrepit, she was so old and of the visit of S/V Tovarisch in September 1972, the beginning of detante with the Soviets.
This site is wonderful. It is great to know that people are still interested in this wonderful ship. My great grandfather Rue Castleberry, aboarded this ship when it first sailed. He always told me about how proud he was of it and that it was still in great shape. I heard that only f amily members could go on it, is that true? I recently visited it and saw his name but didn't go on it and I would like to. It's also amazing to hear from other people that had family members that were on the ship as well.
Name:
I was an original tour guide, along with my twin brother Mark, on the Torsk when she arrived in Baltimore. It took quite a few of us from the Maryland Naval Militia many month's to clean the sub and prepare her for tours. We had a great time studying the history of the Torsk and providing the information we learned to tourists. Former Baltimore Judge Charles Harris was the Director at the time and we a great deal from this man. Thanks for keeping her memories alive and good luck finding all you can about this great submarine.
Hi I'm a Norwegian and is wondering why a American submarine is given a clearly Norwegian name ? :-) I was reading on www.uboat.net when I came upon this boat. Anyone can give me the history of why they choose a Norwegian name for the boat ?
Best wishes from Trond
I VISITED YOUR BOAT IN NOVEMBER 2006 AND WAS PLEASED TO SEE SUCH A CLEAN AND SMART BOAT. I KNOW FROM MY OWN EXPERIENCE (15 YEARS ON ROYAL NAVY SS,SSN,SSBNs)HOW DIFFICULT IT IS TO KEEP A BOAT IN GOOD CONDITION. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE GOOD WORK THAT ALL THE VOLUNTEERS DO AND I HOPE TO VISIT AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. KEEP THE BUBBLE IN THE MIDDLE. A friend of mine, Alfred (Al) M Farrell was a crew member on the TORSK from 1951-1952. Al is still going strong at 80 years old, living in Providence, RI. Al enjoyed the virtual tour of the web-site and remembers many of the other crew members. Please contact me if you would like Al's address or phone number.
