Numbers one and two main engines are located in the forward engine room, which are connected to number one and two generators. Number one engine on the starboard side is missing it's name plate. Number two on the port side still bears the name "SUSAN".

Located below the platform deck on the centerline between the engines are the high pressure air compressors. These provide air at 3000psi which is transferred to one of the six main air banks for storage. The air banks are located in the ballast tanks.

Against the forward bulkhead are the Kleinschmidt Evaporators, used to make fresh water from sea water.

Located aft of each engine is a fuel oil purifier, and in the overhead forward are several large valves. The largest is the engine inboard exhaust valve hand wheel.

When Torsk was decommissioned, the two engines in this compartment were left in readiness status for the reserves to use for training. They have not been preserved like the two in the aft engine room. It is not clear when they were last operated.
