The Maneuvering Room is the propulsion control center on USS Torsk. From here, the electrical output from the diesel generators in the engine rooms is directed to the main motors for propulsion, or to the batteries for charging. When submerged, power from the batteries is sent to the main motors.

Torsk has what is called a split cubicle. The controls for the port and starboard motors are separated by the passageway down the center to the after engine room. These levers, also known as "The Sticks", are where the main motors are actually controlled, and power distributed to or from the batteries. A controllerman would man each set, and position the levers to run the motors forward or back, according to orders from the Conning Tower or Control Room. The senior of the two controllerman would man the starboard set of sticks, where he could also reach the "stop all engines" lever in the overhead.

The starboard panel also has the aircraft altimeter, used to monitor the vacuum in the boat when running submerged on the snorkel. Located on both sides of the room are electrical distribution fuse panels and switchboards.
