Tracey Johnstone's visit to The Royal Navy Submarine Museum

Gosport, England

HMS Alliance S67

 Torpedo Tube #2.

The large handles around the tube which are used to lock the tube are called "Loop Nuts"!

I just read a memoir by an RN WWII submariner and he notes how long it took to reload.

Two words: locking collar! NOT 'loop nuts', unless you're referring to crew...

ALLIANCE has no 'conning tower' compartment and all attack and control functions are in the one room as on TROUT.

Dive is arranged very much as TORSK's control room is...with planesmen facing to port.

Another view of the Dive Station.

RN skippers got to sit down while at the 'scope.

Part of the TDC aboard ALLIANCE.
