USS Torsk SS-423

MK45 ASTOR Load, 12 November 2005

The battery section waiting topside. This section of the torpedo is by far the heaviest - even though it no longer has the batteries or other equipment, it still has the heavy castings inside for support.

Frank checks to make sure the battery section is securely strapped to the handcart. A line was rigged to the cart to help slow it's descent down the steps into the After Torpedo Room.

Here it comes!!

Mark and Gilbert lift and guide the torpedo into the room, while Doc mans the check line topside. You can see one end of the heavy casting for the battery section.

Helping hands...

Even with the check line topside, this thing was a bear to handle. Mike and Dave help Gilbert guide it to the deck.

After the battery section was in the room, we lowered the warhead to get everything inside.
