Family Day aboard USS Ross DDG-71

November 17, 2007

Main Control aboard USS Ross.

This is the same as the Maneuvering Room aboard Torsk. Controls to monitor the four main gas turbine engines as well as the ships service gas turbines are here. Running at full power, Ross can put out just over 100,000 shaft horspower!!!

Looking aft over the stern as Ross is running at about 25 knots. She puts out quite a wake - you could surf on those waves!!

Another shot looking aft from the bridge as we run out to the op area, about 40 miles off shore.

Looking over the bow. You can see the 5" gun and the forward Vertical Launch System in the deck.

A view of the Wardroom just before lunch.

Torpedo Tubes!!!!

Ross carries six external tubes (one set to port and one to starboard), mounted on swivels so that they can be swung outboard for firing.
